About Us
Welcome to the longest
standing air charter service in the Wrangells.

the spectacular scenery from Nikolai Ridge.
Our pilot, Gary Green,
started McCarthy Air in 1988; however, the idea for an air taxi service was
seeded years before. Gary moved to McCarthy in 1973, swelling the town
population to seven, and has been a year-round resident of the area since that
time. Like many Alaskans, Gary began making a living as a miner,
graduated to hunting guide and in 1975 he acquired his private pilot's
license. A year later Gary began flying friends around the Wrangell
Mountains and the state of Alaska. Having flown the area for over 25
years in every season means that Gary knows the country well and has more than
the knowledge and capabilities to not only get you to your destination, but
also answer any questions you may have regarding the area or the history of
the area.

Today, McCarthy Air offers
year-round service and specializes in safely flying hikers,
mountaineers, rafters etc. and their equipment as well as spectacular
flightseeing tours
over one of wildest and most dramatic areas of the world. Visit our office in McCarthy at the heart of the revival of one of the most spectacular
ghost towns in North America to schedule a flight and peruse our extensive
photo displays. Climb aboard one of our planes, buckle up and enjoy the
smooth ride over the 13.2 million acre expanse of the Wrangell-St. Elias
National Park. With over 25 years of year-round experience, an
accident-free record and familiarity of the country, Gary Green is by far one
of the safest and most experienced bush pilots in the Wrangells.

The
University Range towers far above the park.

The
versatility of McCarthy Air's seven passenger-toting Porter allows landings
such as this one on a glacier in the Twaharpies.
Our small
fleet of planes is piloted by 25-year pilot Gary Green and can accommodate a
range of passengers from one person up to seven. All of our planes have
large viewing windows for high visibility during sight-seeing. Gary's
Super-Cub offers intimate backcountry drop-offs and a chance to squeeze into
spots otherwise not accessible by larger planes. Our Cessna 180 can
carry up to 3 people and gear for flightseeing or to many backcountry
locations. McCarthy Air's Pilatus Porter is the only Porter in Alaska
and the only one of its kind left in the world. The Porter can haul up
to seven people and their gear and can land at the majority of our backcountry
locations. The Porter is equipped with a CD player and headsets for
passengers.
